So, we finally meet Prof. Kenyon and he’s a chemist of some kind who certainly believes that he’s in 1944. Axel’s question, “So is there any word on Professor Kenyon,” some weeks ago may very well mean that Kenyon is developing something that will help Axel in his quest to take over the world.
And it appears that Annie is working for Kenyon, or at least doing chores on his farm. I wonder if she doing that just so she can keep an eye on him. It seems that she knows what’s going on, even if a lot of other people don’t.
AAAAHH!!! That’s all’s I can stands I can’t stands anymore!!! It’s truly possible this mash between the living and the dead might be Joe and Mikes Fonzy moment. Just a thought at 2am.
Yes! Perhaps this answers my question of WHY they are running this massive deception. If the old boy is already a little batty and living in his memories, reinforcing them like this might shake something loose.
This guy’s at the center of it all, I bet. Like everyone except Annie, Prof. Kenyon has bought into it being 1944, but he strikes me as more eccentric than loopy. Axel’s interest in the guy confirms it.
Team Tracy has drawn Prof Kenyon to look like Ezra Eon. Back in the thirties, Harold Gray introduced the balmy little scientist named Eli Eon, but Eli was killed by an angry mob. Years later Leonard Starr introduced Eli’s son (or nephew, I’m not sure) Ezra Eon, who was the spitting image of old Eli. Now Team Tracy has brought the character back again, in the person of Prof Kenyon.
Sandy was with Warbucks when Annie was abducted. While we saw a good picture of Annie and Sandy on June 15th, the panel was not part of the story. Sandy has yet to take part in this story, but if Warbucks eventually heads to Thunder Island I’ll wager that Sandy is with him.

Chapter 5.
Dick, reclining back in his seat was amazed at how fast Warbucks private jet seemed to fly. “Makes flying coach seem like horse & buggy” he chuckled to himself. He was glad Tess was so supportive of what he was doing. He was surprised at how fast she got over her shock at his walking away from the only job he ever knew. “She’s a real gem, putting up with me being away from home so often because of the job all these years”. He vowed right there to make good on this assignment so she could be proud of him. “Let’s see what’s in these papers that can help me locate Annie”. Tracy had requested that several days’ worth of the local Chicago papers be on the flight in order for him to see what was happening in the city. He hoped something would jump out at him that would help find her. After about a half an hour Tracy came across a small story that caught his attention.
“The Mysterious Dr. Magpie to bring his traveling medicine show to local venues”.
Before Tracy had a chance to read the entire article he was jolted out of his seat by a loud explosion that seemed to come from right out his window. “Ye Gads, what was that”? He shouted out loud while getting his answer a moment later when he saw the flames shooting out of the left wings engine..
Meanwhile, at the Hotel,,,.
As she slept on the rooms sofa something in Annie’s subconscious seemed to be repeating itself, like a car alarm the kept going off in the middle of the night. She began to get restless until she was jolted to full awareness upon clearly hearing the name “Warbucks” coming from the TV. Looking at it she read what was scrolling across the screen. “Plane owned by Warbucks Industries has experienced engine problems and is attempting to make an emergency landing at O’Hare airport”! Annie, who knew she would never forgive herself if her “Daddy” was on that plane and something happened to him was practically out the door and headed to the airport before the reporter finished his sentence. Running to catch a cab Annie accidently bumped into a short, stubble man wearing a long dark coat. “Sorry mister, I didn’t see you”. The man just smiled, handed Annie a piece of paper and walked away. “What an odd man”. She thought to herself as she sat down in the cab that was waiting on the corner. After telling the driver where she wanted to go Annie looked at the paper the man had given her. “Come out and see the Mysterious Dr. Magpie and his traveling medicine show”!.
@NeilWick:I don’t know how many people read these comments so late in the day, but does anyone who’s read more Annie than I have know if asides are a frequent literary device in Little Orphan Annie because we’ve had at least two in a week.Hi, Neil. I’m not sure exactly what you mean by an “aside” – but Harold Gray used soliloquies very frequently. Characters (especially Annie) would wander around their current environment and talk to themselves, trying to figure things out, or decide on their next move, etc. It wasn’t so much supposed to be an aside to the reader, as a device to show the reader what the character was thinking. in the story where Annie was first kidnapped by Axel, Axel himself did it a lot while pondering his moves against Oliver Warbucks.A variation, of course, is that more often than not Annie had Sandy with her, so she would talk to him. “Sandy, we’re in the middle of something plenty hot”That is how I interpreted her remarks yesterday, about Tracy seeming to be falling for whatever is going on, and her “What am I going to do now?”

I looked for a picture of Eli Eon or Ezra Eon, but all I found was a “fan art” drawing of Harold Gray’s Eli Eon at http://www.deviantart.com/art/Eli-Eon-450884441 with a little commentary. Here is the drawing:
This talk of trying to get chemicals to bind makes me wonder what sort of thing that Prof. Kenyon is working on. My working hypothesis is that it’s some sort of nuclear reaction, which would be consistent with some of the references seen so far in this story:
The fusion of two nuclei with lower masses than iron (which, along with nickel, has the largest binding energy per nucleon) generally releases energy, while the fusion of nuclei heavier than iron absorbs energy. The opposite is true for the reverse process, nuclear fission. This means that fusion generally occurs for lighter elements only, and likewise, that fission normally occurs only for heavier elements. I’m expecting one of Tracy’s missing foes to turn up. Maybe even the Nitrates… in 40’s attire, of course. (Can’t picture Sprocket in high heels. Unless she wore them as a disguise!)

Perhaps the Potemkin village is all to convince Professor Kenyon to create the world-conquering formula.

The professor has been standing too close to his Van de Graaff generator.
