Might have been funnier if he’d said 1799. And if you’re declaring independence from a monarchy, do you really want to be making a Prince reference?

I don’t get it. 1766 was before 1776 so that seems illogical in terms of the Prince song. Why not 1799? Would that make it TOO derivative? Oh well there are other days and other comics so happy 4th of July.

    It’s 1776 so he’s going back 10 years.

Wasn’t it a tea party that started the whole thing to begin with?

“We The People” is the start of the preamble to the Constitution. The Declaration begins: “When in the course of human events…”

You don’t say? Wow, it’s almost like it was an actual historical reference… to a Prince song. Thanks for taking the time to look it up.

And thanks for reading this taxing cartoon!

Thom, you try to bring a smile or two in the toons, see what happens. I don’t care about the dates , it was a great toon , ignore them and keep the smiles coming for for the rest of us that enjoy your toons.

People…. this is a cartoon…..not a history class, focus on the humor not not the dates. Enjoy life… don’t be so critical about every little thing…. life is too short for that…trust me.

I thought it was funny, THOM. But then, I am not a history buff. In fact, I am not even American. We were taught the “Desiderada” in school. Anyone here able to quote that?HAPPY JULY 4th, southern neighbours!

    Wasn’t it signed on July 4th, 1776 (not 1766)?
