Most politicians are telling the truth, so far as what they would LIKE to do. Just as I would be telling the truth if I said I would like to invent a wind powered car and make a bazillion dollars. Once in office, however, they have to deal with the other party, and reality sets in. That’s how the two party system works. If you actually what your candidate to deliver everything s/he promised, also elect members of the same party to down ticket seats. That’s when things actually happen.

How about Harry S. Truman? He was elected after finishing FDR’s term in 1948. A sign he put on the desk of the oval office read “The buck stops here.”
