There are all sorts of things that we do that are dangerous, often without even thinking about it. Smoking, driving too fast, motorcycles, skydiving etc are obvious. Those are things that people do, at least originally, partially BECAUSE they are dangerous and consequently a “thrill”. But working in a hospital makes it pretty obvious pretty soon that bunk beds, bike riding, skate boarding, overeating, booze, medications of just about any sort and a whole lot of other stuff are on the list. Life is dangerous, and doing something that puts you at risk when there is no actual benefit to it is just stupid.

An additional thought— it might be exciting to think about dying young and leaving a beautiful corpse, but I don’t think too many people would get excited about wrecking their bikes and spending the next 50 years in a wheelchair, which happens more often than the actual killing themselves.

I remember a little ditty from years back:Ruth rode on my motor bike, directly back of me. I hit a bump at 65 and rode on ruthlessly.
