We had one production unit on our (chemical) plant where the very top catwalk was 268 feet above ground. I wasn’t too comfortable up there, being the highest thing around. The “main deck” was more my speed— it was only 200 feet above the ground. Fairly often I had to take particulate samples from the air vents at about 190 feet. You got there by an outside stair well. Actually it seemed pretty comfy compared to the top catwalk.

I guess Paul has never been to the Empire State Building or, when they still stood, The World Trade Center. The Eiffel Tower isn’t all that tall compared to a lot of modern skyscrapers. But I guess if you are fearful of heights, you would freak out getting on a ladder to clean your roof gutters.

I have heard, that some people are so scared of heights, that stepping up one step onto a step-stool is just too much height. Now, that’s vertigo!

the elevator up top is actually the worst since it has glass walls. When I went up I had to stand in the middle of the elevator and either close my eyes or look straight up!

I know how he feels. A friend once talked me into taking the elevator to the top of The Pencil. I hugged the wall next to the elevator the whole time I was up there!

I worked with a guy from the construction business. We were on the roof of a building with just a plain flat roof. He would look down with his toes out over the edge. I needed to stay a bit back.

The Blackpool Tower (modeled a bit on Tour Eiffel) has a “walk of faith” at the very top. A heavy plexiglass window in the walkway that makes it seem like you’re standing on nothing. It’s very exciting if you like heights (as my sons and I do), but terrifying for those with vertigo.
