I have an elderly friend who has a gerontologist. Last time she went to an appt. she was told Dr. X was at a conference, and she would be seeing Dr. Y. This really upset her, as she’d never seen Dr. Y and would have to go through a long explanation about her problem. Why can’t the office call a patient, in cases like this, so the patient can opt to make another appointment rather than drag themselves in to talk with a substitute?
I had a situation where I was held waiting a very long time for a scheduled doctor visit. It was well over an hour and I finally went to the desk and told the attendant I had to go as I had a meeting to attend, and I rescheduled the visit..I sent the doctor a bill for the time wasted, and when I arrived for the rescheduled visit, I was promptly ushered in. The doctor was in the exam room promptly, and after the exam, he opened a desk drawer and pulled out the bill asking, “What do you want me to do with this?”.I explained my time is valuable, and I shouldn’t be held up just because he is delayed. He agreed with me, apologized, and again asked about the bill. I told him if he would make a check out to a particular charity for the amount of the bill, we would call it square. He agreed, and I never waited more than a couple minutes again.
I drove 3.5 hours one way for a referral to UCLA. When I got there they had me fill out the intake papers, glanced at the papers and me, then said to come back in a month because they didn’t have any of my records. They got their money and I got exhausted/frustrated. I was really sad. What a waste of time.

It’d be like going to Dr. Douglas “Doogie” Howser and getting Dr. Gregory House, right?
