    From yesterday – Larry was the first to answer correctly and then the others figured out the rest. He was born in 1800 in Virginia (Carton made me remember this riddle) and died in 1900 in West Virginia as the state split during the Civil War. The president was Lincoln (not Kennedy as many assume) as the vice president was Andrew Johnson.

    There’s no legal difference between a state and a commonwealth, it’s just what a state wants to call itself. The US Constitution, which establishes the USA, refers only to states, so if a state wants to call itself a commonwealth, fine, but it’s still a state.
