As a sidenote from yesterday, I’d like to say that if I ever do need to change my user name on this forum, I think that “internet white knight “ would be a great choice!
Thank God Tracy still has his eyes. I think if he stayed under the Belinda spell for a long period of time in Simmon’s Corner he’d lose them during his assimilation into Annieland.
This is getting verrrry interesting. Also, regarding the clock in yesterday’s strip. If you look at it closely. The first panel it indicates 4:43, the second 4:44 and the last panel it is dead on at 4:45 when Tracy snaps out of his trance. I appreciate such attention to detail!
The poster does seem to shift around a lot, but I don’t really mind that, to be honest. It’s just background. The focus is on the characters.
So, even without being hypnotized by Belinda Annie believes that it really is 1944 and since she seems to know more about what’s going on than anyone else (with the possible exception of Axel), I’m inclined to believe her.
Annie actually being in 1944 would tend to explain the letter she wrote to Sparkle that was postmarked at a time when Sparkle was still a child. This story is looking more and more like something Rod Serling would have written for “The Twilight Zone”. My compliments to Team Tracy for doing such an excellent job of keeping us guessing as to what is really going on, while still building suspense. I can’t wait to see how this storyline turns out.
I didn’t expect Annie to say that. What I expected her to say was something more like, “Mr. Tracy, everyone here is the victim of an elaborate hoax.” So now we have to find out what Annie meant when she said, “Mr. Tracy believes it all.”
I wonder if the paint on the buildings is lead basedActually, if Tracy happens to think of it, that would be a good way to test “when” they are – unless Axel is so clever, he even went so far as to make sure all the buildings had lead based paint, just to make his 1944 illusion complete.Just don’t go talking backward.(Groan) it took me a minute, but a clever reference to the “White Knight”"
After rereading the last several days’ worth of strips, I don’t think Annie is really convinced about the time travel. She said she “thinks” that they went back to 1944. She may have said this to cause Tracy to investigate the matter and see if he comes to the same conclusion that she has.
The evidence will be the phoney calendar. This was Axel’s mistake. He didn’t do proper research when he put his 1944 town together.
So the question becomes, not Where, not When, but Why?
Annie may have her wits about her (thank goodness!), but that doesn’t mean that she really understands what is going on. If Annie really thinks they went back to 1944, she may well be wrong. The operative facts are that Simmons Corners is under Axel’s spell and control and that Dick Tracy and Annie need to get out of town!
On a scale of ‘stubbed toe’ to ‘global nuclear war’, any situation that causes Dick Tracy’s eyes to become visible ranks a ‘KILL YOUR LOVED ONES THEN YOURSELF AND PRAY FOR OBLIVION’.
I’m leaning toward the “alternate reality” line at the moment..Attention to detail: The bogus June 1944 calendar may be our biggest clue yet – a person planning a hoax would never let something that obvious get by! And we’re thinking the same person may have lead based paint as a cover up?.Now the question may be: WHERE is this alternate universe taking place?.The only thing we seem to know for now is WHEN: Wherever they are, it IS 1944!
Could all this be virtual reality? Annie and Tracy are both plugged into the same scenario – with Prof. Kenyon – as he relives and recreates an experiment.?Nah.
Wherever and whenever they are, I have to wonder how Tracy got there.Axel’s goons wouldn’t simply toss him into a time machine.Tracy must have come ashore, found something strange, and stepped through the door, or pressed the big red button (labeled, ‘do not press’).But when he was noticed – and he must have – why didn’t they pull him from the scenario?Curiouser and curiouser…

I’m wondering if any of the crew at MCU (hey that rhymes) will deduce the clues in the letter that would lead them to Thunder Island?

I had made up my mind that the time-warp thing was all a fake. Now I’m not so sure. Good job by Team Tracy to keep us guessing.

And once again, Tracy asks, “Where are we?” but the correct question is “When are we?” as Vitamin Flintheart pointed out to us several weeks ago.

Good morning fans. Time travel or not, it’s a great story.

It’s probably not a time warp unless Tracy first jumped to the left, then took a step to the right….
