A guy who can’t walk and reach for a phone at the same time isn’t much of an athlete. I guess he’s supposed to have rolled his ankle, but you sure can’t tell from the first two panels.
I have to think the authors a) live in Colorado or Washington, b) read the comments on this page every day, and c) medicate deeply in order to come up with a storyline
I don’t think it’s a turned ankle or an achilles tear. It seems pretty obvious that he received an electric shock when he stepped on the curb. It’s a safety feature put in place by the Milford City Council to keep kids from running into the street.
True will be of little value to MHS unless he can channel his inner Lance Harbor and mentor Jarrod (John Moxon) like in Varsity Blues. Gil Thorp as Bud Kilmer? At least Kilmer rountinely won his district.
Season-ending injury for this year. Now all the phone calls from other coaches stop, but Gil builds up a relationship with True and makes him part of the team. Next year: championship!
I’m thinking that Milford wins out with Tru(e), as Gil’s "relationship with Tru(e) helps him make his decision. He’ll be out the first month or two, but he rallys the team in the 2nd half of the season, just missing the playdowns. It sets up the stage for next year! Go Milford 2015! Playdowns, here we come!
There’s also the other angle that Tru(e) doesn’t really want to play football. He could be faking the injury, fake falling in public so others can verify that he fell. He complains to his Dad that he’s not able to play. He’ll enroll at Milford. Knowing that Milford doesn’t have a recent strong playdown run, he figures that going to Milford is the safe bet that he doesn’t have to extend his career in the post-season. He’ll end up with the wrong crowd, ensuring that no college wants him (who wants a QB with a big M tattoo – unless Michigan is calling and who wants a QB that is always talking to a peacock or spends endless amount of time looking a YouTube videos?).

Well, so much for Tru’s football career. This story arc really wrapped up fast – before he even touched a football!

I didn’t see this coming. Nice twist….get it! I actually have hope for this storyline. But we all know that will never happen.

Well of course it doesn’t feel right. It’s a freaking tube sock. People have worn those since that first Duran Duran video in the 80’s.

If only his cargo shorts had normal pockets and he didn’t have to fiddle with that dang button.
And that vibrating device in his pocket may not have felt right, but it felt so good…

Gil’s concern for True is revealed when he says to him-“why don’t you just enroll at Valley Tech. We don’t want any gimps at Milford.”

I may be wrong, but I still predict True will never play a down for Milford and we won’t even see him again after this summer.

…unfortunately on the PUP (Physically Unable to Play) list to start the season…but fortunately also on the AUS (Actively Urged to Shower) list!

@EllisburkesIn all reality, the Bear tackle you are referring to was Fox sportscaster Dan Jiggets who played at Harvard .
