Baldo by Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos for August 01, 2014

Mr. Rod: This won't take long, Bea. Mr. Rod: And this is your last check. Mr. Rod: Please let me know if you need anything. Mr. Rod: Except, you know, a job.
It is sad to realize that laying off workers this way is becoming the norm. We all can identify with Baldo and Beatrice. There is always a troublemaker in a workplace, too, like Jingo. This comic depicts a disturbing piece of reality today. Look what is happening with the Market Basket workers now.
Suspect the parts store is not doing well – higher costs from the healthcare mandate, more regulation by EPA and attendant higher energy costs. They may even be in one of those jurisdictions that is pushing a higher minimum wage. All deadly politics for the average guy.
What about Harold and Frank? They were on the list as well. Peronally, I would have chosen Jing. Baldo and Bea contribute to their families, but Jing was only worried about having to buy used video games. One rousing Trump “YOU’RE FIRED” for Jingy-poo.
I worked for a small company owned by one man. When he sold the company, those who were getting to stay were sent to a different location to be told, but not knowing what was to happen. Those who were getting pink slips stayed at the company location where they were told. Uncertainty is sometimes like being slowly raised by a noose and being left to twist slowly, slowly in the wind.
@Jbmlaw (& pedmar)You are both inserting uninformed and irrelevant political screeds. ACA mandates and the EPA have nothing to do with a small auto parts store. And higher minimum wage laws have been shown to boost small businesses… By creating more people who have disposable income, and who can afford to shop somewhere other than Walmart. Nothing here suggests señor Rod is Republican either, so using that as a launching point to rant about lack of caring on the part of Republicans is ridiculous.

Pretty certain it is all of them. Or at least those two.

Typical Republican behavior: We care about you with words but not our actions. Our profits mean more to us than people do.

As I recall, there were 5 names on the lay off list. Maybe Mr. Rod is hiring a bunch of illegals for $4.00 an hour.

I think Baldo was not fired. The three just assumed it was Baldo. The boss never said so. It was Bea, all along, who was the ONE to go.

Sounds like Baldo’s shift if over, hence why he’s leaving. But it was Bea who was the 1 employee laid off.
