It can get down to 49F at night during the winter in Honolulu. They even have snow at some of the higher elevations. So its not like Ryan would have no experience with slightly cooler weather.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we had an exchange student from Greenland once, and he almost suffocated (in September) when we hit the intolerable temperature of 75.
Years ago I was in Albuquerque with some Hawaiians who had never been off the islands before. They were walking around in short sleeves in dead winter because they’d never been cold in their lives and didn’t know what they were feeling or what to do about it. It didn’t seem to bother them though.
Just a note to some of you people confusing ‘Hawaii’ with the island of Oahu (where Ryan is from), I was there one December when it went down to 60 degrees F at the airport - and that was the HEADLINE for that day’s paper.
Hawaii has mountains (with snow and skiing), Oahu has Waikiki Beach.
My college roomate was from Hawaii and I still vividly remember the coldest January Boulder, CO had seen in decades and my roomate riding a bike to campus wearing a huge, over-stuffed winter coat…
Well, his willy got chilly when he went to the beach
And all along the coast they could hear him screech
So Mona took home the sniveling mess
And looked in her closet to find him a dress
Not one the manliest of men it seems is he
Why, I even heard he doesn’t stand to go
What she sees in him is a mystery still
I thinking soon that she will have her fill.
In San Francisco, we’re usually between 50 and 80 year-round, but 100 isn’t unheard of, and neither is 30. Also, it might be 50 on the 4th of July and 80 on Christmas…
He doesn’t really know cold til he spends more time with Mona. She’ll show him cold. There is cold and then there is FRENCH COLD. You can’t ever thaw out from French cold.

Poor guy! He’s used to a warm climate. Everything is new here for him and it’s kind of a shock to him.

I suppose Mona can warm him. But isn’t that against her principles?

…Okay, how could he be THIS stupid? I know he’s young but you just can’t assume everything is like Hawaii. It’s like she’s dating Donna

The snow is on the Big Island where it can be quite cool around Volcano National Park.

“Is there anywhere in the world where it’s always between 60 and 70 degrees? ”
No no no no. Between 80 and 90… Course I’m from Texas. 70 is downright chilly!
