But it’s the skier’s fault - not the design of the jump!!! (Even if we move the sign after the accident.)

CRASH! And that’s why the Winter Olympics are a crashing bore.

(What’s with MS-NBC and all that curling coverage?! Is there some connection between that non-sport and leftist news coverage?)

Curling, like golf goes back to the elder days of Scottland. Teams play for a trophy called the Silver Broom.

Love the comments so far today…. People are very “on” this morning!

Better jumping the sign…then ‘jumping the shark’….

I miss the opening of ABC’s “Wide World Of Sports” with Eddie ‘the screaming eagle’ in the agony of defeat crashing and burning on the ski jump….

That wasn’t Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards (British ski-jumper, 1988 Olympics), that was Vinko Bogataj (Slovenian ski-jumper, 1970 Ski-Flying World Championships).

Eddie didn’t become famous for crashing, he became famous for coming in dead last by a wide margin. He was the first British ski-jumper, and he got to compete at the Olympics because he was the only British ski-jumper. After his notorious performance, the IOC introduced the “Eddie the Eagle Rule”, which “requires Olympic hopefuls to compete in international events and place in the top 30 percent or the top 50 competitors, whichever is the lesser” (from Wikipedia).

boldyuma, the person in question has probably forgotten more than you’ll ever know. In fact, I suspect he’s forgotten more than HE ever knew, and is currently operating from a deficit.

Joe Doty, there is a comment (by me) waiting for you over in Birdbrains (February 21, the one about the lemmings) about this very matter. It’s not going to be easy reading, I think, but I hope you’ll take a look at it.

Really, I don’t think you see yourself as others see you, and that’s the problem. It’s not so much what you say as how you say it that annoys many of us here. And the more challenging thing is that your writtten “tone of voice” is not always the same. Sometimes it’s lucid and helpful, because you’re speaking to us; sometimes it’s not, because you’re speaking to yourself - and it shows.

As I’ve said before, I can make the very same mistake for the very same reason, and have done so - right here on Uclick. So I’m writing from a point of view of sympathy, not of antipathy.

pschearer, as a “militant centrist” ;) I’m not going to get involved in poltics here, but I couldn’t resist the pun: maybe leftist reporting likes curling so much because leftist politics are curling so many people’s hair?

(You may all groan now. Assassins may be hired down the street about five blocks, in the gray house on the right.)
