Susan001 - There are low-tech toys for older kids still being produced, but the marketing budgets aren’t as high for those. We did a pretty decent job of getting toys & games that don’t require batteries (not a complete ban, but made our sons pay for the replacement batteries, which kept them from asking for those types of toys). A person buying toys just needs to be selective, and not be swayed by what toys have the most commericials. Legos, K-nex, etc. are still pretty popular, but inspire creativity.

the “big” kids will be shocked when the little kids come back and find them playing with the baby toys

    Rmom:

a lot of the lego sets now are in kits with instructions on how to make a particular item..

they don’t sell many lego sets like when we were younger

What is so sad teenagers with no electronics tend to get bored and find trouble they don’t use imaginations. When I was a kid I made up my own games and I didn’t do drugs, drink or vandalise property. All three at least are staying entertained.

Remember that, you guys - the toys are the property of the library!
