except that I don’t really believe that, so she might as well stop acting like one.
Unsettling appearances in a mate are trouble. They may be nothing but appearances, and it may be too touchy to mind them, but if they’re really unsettling then they’re really not worth it.
And that goes two ways. (If it were awake-talking on his part, rather than subconscious, I’d be a lot less sympathetic to him because Yes, his standards would be one-way.)
