Pet peeve of mine. Smoking section 3 feet from non-smoking. I love it now that many cities are completely non-smoking. And the world didn’t come to an end as the smoking lobby had predicted.Of course, being me, I didn’t notice how close the waste can is to Joy’s….

The ‘Smoking Section’ is next to the kitchen exhaust fan so the customers can get 2nd-hand enjoyment of everyone else’s food being cooked. For Crustwood this probably rates as a 4-star eatery..! Perfect for these 2!!!!

They go there because the booths are big enough for them to squeeze into easier. Not much of a choice is there. We didn’t go to places that you had to walk through the smoking to get to the non. or had to stand in the smoking area to pay. Here in Fl smoking isn’t allowed in any building. They have to stand outside the door or in designated areas. And NO the world didn’t come to an end. (Or did I miss that too??)

I can’t remember the last time I even saw a restaurant with a smoking section.

My “favorite” memory was of some fellow who resembled the Pennys in many ways being offered a seat in the non-smoking section because the restaurant was packed to the window sills. As he walked to his table, he grabbed an ash tray, sat it on his table and lit up. When the waitress called him on it, he pitched a fit and said he’d only agreed to the non-smoking section so he could get a seat. Apparently he figured the sign didn’t apply to him.

Last time I went into a restaurant that actually had smoking and non-smoking, we were to sit in the non smoking section which was on a raised platform in the middle of the restaurant. They just didn’t get it when I pointed out the futility of a non smoking section in the highest part of the restaurant. I mean you couldn’t even see the lights above the tables through the smoke. We left instead of choking on smoke for dinner.

As a pipe smoker, myself, I never understood smoking sections in restaurants. I have always indulged in my pipe out-of-doors (other than a few times in my closed den in my home, which I haven’t done for many years now).

At places like Bob’s I would prefer the no grease seating where the table and seating surfaces were not tacky with latent grease residue. Burl and Joy wouldn’t notice that.

Thankfully here in the state of Washington & elsewhere smoking is banned indoors period. Even tobacco stores are not allowed to let smokers light up. My pet peeve is people who continually talk & text not only in restaurants but movie theaters.

We stopped at a Dairy Queen in a small north Texas town for a ‘pit stop’ and a burger. The smoke was so thick, I walked from the front door to the restrooms, decided not to eat and walked back out and my clothes stunk to high heaven. Total time in the dining room about 30 seconds.

My favorite was a stop in St. George, Utah. We were asked if we wanted ‘drinking’ or ‘non-drinking’.

When they used to ask smoking and non-smoking here, my wife would say non-children. We always ended up seating behind someone with small children looking over our booth and touching us with greasy fingers.

In this city, there is a total ban on smoking in public buildings. Years before this, my friend and I walked into a restaurant and asked for the nonsmoking area. The waitress removed an ashtray from a table had us sit there.
