Back when we had answering machines I had a message that went like this, “Hello? Hello is anyone there? Oh, I’m sorry I’m the one that’s not here, but if you want to leave a message for me wait for the beep.” As far as I know I only caught one person with the trick, he was laughing so hard he had trouble leaving the message, but he did admit that I tricked him.

I’ve had those messages, back when I had an answering machine, and not just a mobile phone. “Pick up! Pick up! I know you’re there.” Only I wasn’t.
