she calls her other grandmother “Jasmine” ?I’m glad Grandma was here to tell me who we were talking about, or I would have thought Jasmine was a kid like Cylene.
It’ the difference between my relationship with MY Ruthie, and her relationship with another grandparent. My Ruthie is with me every weekend, I take her on vacations, and she wants to live with us (even at almost 12 years old). Her grandparent on another side, is more C&E (Christmas & Easter). I live to protect, educate, and show love to my “Ruthie”.
My “Ruthie” was lucky to have both sets of grandparents around to interact with. My mother taught her all about plants and animals and crafts and my husband’s mother and dad took her boating and parks and traveling. She had a well rounded childhood.
One of my grandmothers had two grandchildren, my brother and me. I was basically her whole life for awhile (she had always wanted a daughter), and I spent lots of time with her and my grandfather, spent the night there often, went on trips with them, and they spent lots of money on us as well.
My other grandmother got divorced when I was little, and had 13 grandchildren (I was number 4 in the mix) and not a lot of money. Plus she still had 3 kids at home when I was born (one of my uncles is only 7 years older than I am). She spent about $5 a piece on Christmas gifts for us, because that’s what she could afford. I never had a sleepover at her house. I think I was in high school when I learned to appreciate that she was doing the best that she could with what she had. She did have the whole family (6 kids and spouses and 13 grandchildren) over to her tiny house for holidays, and was an awesome cook.
@ekw – I had forgotten about Jasmine till now, but now remember her telling Ruthie to call her that. Also have a vague idea it’s the name she gave herself, not the one her parents gave her (cf Giraldus vs Gerald).

Well, not exactly, Ruthie. But from your perspective, I can understand why you would reach that conclusion…

Foolish cartoon characters! We know so much better than they do.
Good thing we have this forum so we can write in and tell them how to live their lives in a logical and humor-free manner.
