I’ve pretty much lived this. I took an old pair of boots to a shoe repair shop and promptly forgot about them. Almost a year later, I brought in a pair of Timberlines to be resoled and then remembered my old boots. I asked for them and even had the ticket. He couldn’t find them and apologized. I told him it was my fault as I didn’t pick them up. A few weeks later, I get a call, saying he’s found my old boots, but he never fixed them and give him a few days. Hand to God true. This was in Ionia, Michigan in the ninties.
Recycling a very old joke about a guy that finds a shoe repair ticket from decades ago…. brings it to the shop…. which surprisingly is still in business …. as a prank only to be nonchalantly told they would be ready next Tuesday.

That joke is decades older than that repair receipt.

Wasn’t this a shoe repair joke many years ago?

It will take him that long to find it.

This is identical to an old Blondie strip from many years ago. There, it was an old shoe repair ticket.

I remember that joke from a 1965 comedy album called “You don’t have to be Jewish” which featured a lot of older Jewish vaudeville comics.

checks Rick Detorie is 66? From all the focus on old people even a dozen years ago, I thought he’d be older.

If we couldn’t fix it in the shop and we had to send it to the company it could be 4 to 6 weeks before we got it back.
