He gave his son good advice! My older brother and I would tape each other to furniture when we were 6-9 years old – we played cops and robbers, Dudley Doright and Snidely Whiplash, etc. Masking tape is very easy for even a 6yo to tear, no harm done.
I didn’t even know where the duck tape was stored back then.
So mom’s response it (wait for it) is to confine him to a chair for a long time! Fitting punishment or total hypocrisy, depending on how you look at it…

When I was a kid, we played cops & robbers or cowboys & Indians. Hostage situation? Yipes.
