My sister told my then 4 1/2 year old nephew that he couldn’t start kindergarten until he’d learnt to tie his own shoes. One morning i sat with him and taught him how to do it…
When he got to kindergarten he was the only kid in his class who knew how to tie his shoes- so he started teaching his classmates.
When my sister and nephew came to visit a couple of years ago, we were all going out and putting our shoes on. She saw me tying mine and flipped, then asked me to teach her how to do it that way. I had found a way to tie shoes that takes 1/4 of the time and pretty much have been doing it that way since.
It just goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks…
Oh Ruthie get so frustrated.I remember when my kids was small, my son was having trouble learning to tie his shoes, his sister 3 years younger. I had thumb issue as my thumb was spider bit. I told my son what needed done and his sister watched and caught on fast.

Until you can do it without thinking, it takes concentration. Like tying on an apron in the back.
