Why do we torture kids with things such as “action verbs” or “non-action/passive verbs”? I can’t honestly recall any time in the military or business life when I had to worry about questions such as this. Literacy, of course, but I don’t even care if you know what a gerund is as long as you are able to speak and write/type your basic language clearly and precisely.

Isn’t the other option called a “passive” verb? Example: I am a girl. “Am” is the verb and is NOT an action verb.

Stative, state-of-being, verbs of being. These are all used to define non-active verbs. I am sure there are more.
