I recall when my granddaughter began Kindergarten (Yes, kindergarten) and left for school on her first morning with a fully loaded backpack that was nearly as big as she was. An entourage escorted her on her first day. She graduated HS this year, and starts college this fall. The family probably won’t be there to walk her to school on her first day.

When I was in school, I was told that backpacks should not weigh more than 15% of the wearer’s body weight. Bad for ergonomics.
