And yet it’s common. I live near the Mediterranean and in beach towns you see all those Northern Europeans lying on the sunbeds, red as tomatoes, and yet catching more rays. You’d think it would be painful as all get-out, but they act like it’s fine.
I’d hate to see their skin ten or twenty years from now, because many of the worst burned come back year after year. I’m of Celtic blood myself—and I wear hats and shades and suncream. I’ve never been one to sunbathe, and I often get told I look much younger than my age.
On interstate drives in summer I wear a long sleeved white shirt, like a business shirt. Really much cooler. Air conditioning is not enough to stop from roasting in a car, especially as windscreens can’t be tinted.Even then, my hands tingle at the end of the day, so I might start wearing white gloves as well.Sounds wussy? Tough for you.Where I live we have the world’s highest incidence of melanoma. Why cook my skin in the sun for eight or more hours?

Nabuquduriuzhur did a good job of describing the cartoon. Maybe the red did not come out vibrant enough.

This is one cartoon that wouldn’t work at all with an inattentive colorist.

BrassOrchid: In that context, it isn’t called sunburn, but Adam’s embarrassment.
