“Move along, move along. There’s nothing to see here.” That’s what they all say, but Tracy is actually there on a reconnaissance mission. That much is clear to us, but hopefully not to Axel. I hope Axel is not getting suspicious because he clearly isn’t accustomed to surprise visitors.
He couldn’t be more obvious. As the publisher of the local paper, everyone in town knows where to find Axel, particularly Annie, who was summoned there just the other day. I wonder if Officer Tracy is fishing for an excuse to show up there on a regular basis.
I’m pleased to see that Leopold has shown up again. I always think characters should appear at least several times after the artist went to the trouble to design them. He may be more important than he looks.
I think it has to be the same guy as on July 13, but it looks like he changed his hair colour. It was black with greyish highlights in the Sunday strip and now it’s light brown.
Great opportunity for Tracy to beat the truth out of Axel, arrest him and get Annie out of there in time for Sam and company to show up for the rescue. We could have this case wrapped up in just a few days.
Now lets see if there are any concerns about the bad guy smoking a ciggy.Of course if this really was 1944 just about everyone would be smoking, maybe even Ma Silo and Annie.
Tracy’s motive for visiting Axel is probably to just observe, to get a feel of the ‘lay of the land’ and gather as much information as he can before making his move.
I’m not happy with the supposed continuity of this story line. First, Tracy never served during the war. this was addressed by Chester Gould decades ago. Secondly, had Tracy been fighting Nazis overseas, he certainly would not be back before 1945. Nobody went into the service during the war and came home before it was over except the dead and wounded who could not be sent back right away. A little more reality would be good here. I know this isn’t really 1944 but come on. Put a little sense into this.
Just thinking about Sunday’s strip. Why would Axel need to send instructions to people?Everyone seems to be doing their normal jobs, like the barber, Prof. Kenyon, and the SIlos.Officer Tracy would do what he always does, and patrol the town, fill out paperwork, etc.Secret instructions would only be needed if they were doing something secret we haven’t seen yet.
To compare the admittedly lengthy Flattop arc to the present meandering, almost incomprehensible story is like comparing A Tale of two Cities to something by Danielle Steele.
Robin Williams 1951 – 2014The term genius has become overused to the point where its true meaning has lost its impact. This is certainly not the case when describing the talents of Robin Williams, an entertainer who was truly worthy of the title. We are very fortunate to live in an era of mass media, whereWilliams’ performances have been recorded for posterity. Years from now people will still be admiring and studying his techniques in the same way we currently do with greats like Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. And they will be laughing as they do it.

Wondering what’s up with Tracy’s suggestion? Just a red herring so Axel won’t be suspicious?

R.I.P. Robin Williams. How sad that someone who had the gift of being able to make others laugh struggled so much inner turmoil.

Tracy checks out “publisher” Axel, and will henceforth recognize his face. But does Dick have a yet deeper plan here?

Remembering the many times Robin Williams made me laugh, and feeling sad that he ended up so miserable.
