I don’t see that a blanket is worse than worry beads, or chewing on pens. I have known people who chew on other people’s pens (like when they come into my office etc), with or without permission.
For many years I carried a beach pebble in my pocket. It fit in a closed palm, and had a naturally-formed crease down the middle, just right for rubbing with a thumb. Great stress-reliever.
Shortly after my mother died, my aunt gave me an official Linus blanket. I treasure it to this day, sometimes am extremely grateful for the security it provides when needed and I am much much older than little Linus.
I’d like to see an adult start helping poor Linus with his blanket problem, but then again, the whole strip is about these kiddies managing everything on their own without adults being shown.

Better to make up a story she’s heard before, than the truth!Sometimes, a little lie, is better.

Try telling her you’re allergic to school.
Yeah, I know—it didn’t work for me, either. That was way before homeschooling took off.

Didn’t Miss Othmar used to bite her nails? Is that not unlike carrying a blanket around?
