Once I had the same discussion with one of the boys about cleaning up his room.I stated – It takes you 3 hours to do. No, he firmly replied!Yes, it does – 2½ hours whining and ½ an hour cleaning.
Since I haven’t had the 2½ hours whining problem :)Though I still have to push him to do the cleaning…
Never had homework I could not do at school so my parents let me sit at the TV. This meant that they knew where I was and how much trouble I was getting into.
I was one of those kids who had all his textbooks read before class started in the fall and rarely had to crack them during the school year. I could ace the tests and soon learned that I didn’t need to do the homework to learn the material. .However, homework was a part of the grade, and I got poor marks despite getting a good education. I was pissed at the system because it was too inflexible to account for what was later called a GUA – Gifted Under Achiever.
I know someone who would do her homework, but not turn it in! None of her kids are big homework doers, but some do it and don’t turn it in! Maybe it’s hereditary – the inability to finish something,
We struggle with that sometimes. It’s a challenge for me to see difficulties my kids have, at times, and I have to consciously work to stay calm when spending an hour on what seems very simple to me, when I think I’m leading my kids in the right direction, even all but writing down the “right” answer. On the other hand, I’ve seen them, when truly motivated, plow through a whole night’s homework in about 5 minutes, having none of the issues they have on “difficult days”.
Sounds like an old movie I just saw:Henry Hill{as narrator}: As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.Henry Hill’s father: Did you have a good day at school?Henry Hill: I guess so.Henry Hill’s father: Did you learn a lot?Henry Hill: Yeah.Henry Hill’s father: That’s funny, because I just got this letter from the truant officer that says you have not attended school in a month. {take off belt and starts disciplining his son} A month! A goddamn MONTH {Father disciplines Henry Hill while his mother pleads to stop}Henry Hill{as narrator}: I took it a like a man. Hey, everyone gets chewed out at some point.

This illustrates the difference between intelligence and common sense.

Why is Elly solely responsible for the job of “homework monitor?” John needs to get his butt out of that chair and halp!

didn’t Michael become a writer? If so, he chose the perfect job….until deadline day.
