I was going to comment about how it’s just an expression … but actually, being thrown underneath a real bus might be preferable to what happens in politics.

Recently elected U.S. Senator, Scott Brown, employed his daughters as political surrogates. Prez Bill Clinton used James Carville, and others as surrogates, especially when dealing with negative issues. Candidate John Kerry touted his own service in Vietnam, which sounded too much like bragging (using a surrogate to say the same thing would have been the better way convey the information). Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Michelle Obama serve as political surrogates for the sitting president. Perhaps Sam has a smart career idea here….?

Not so sure about Michelle Obama. First Ladies haven’t been out in front on policy issues since Hillary got pilloried in the 90’s. (They usually get a minor war - on drugs, obesity, illiteracy, etc. to champion)

Dan Quayle, Spiro Agnew, the entire fox network, Sarah Palin, GWB, Rush Limppaw. Just listing the Republican surrogates, Flor. And at least Kerry actually served in Nam and saw some real fire. He could have been hiding home with Dick and George if he’d had enough rich relatives.

I’m sure there’s some sort of point that’s being made, but since I don’t spend my time watching the tabloid, “news” networks I really don’t know what it is.
