If he actually did study hard and did so poorly that he got a failing grade, he’s a moron. Lad should save his money and drop out.
If he does put in the time, there may be a problem with his technique. Often there are special classes or tutors to teach you how to study effectively. It’s not something that comes naturally to many people.
