OMG! The only thing worse than being in a tornado is being in a tornado with Burl Penny in charge.Remember those poor frogs in HS Biology lab? The ones we cut the brains out of? Yes, those. They had more sense than Burl.
If the tornado makes a 180º turn then the evacuees should maintain course. That is, for example: Tornado heads north, evacuees head south, fair enough. Tornado makes u-turn and now heads south. If the evacuees reverse direction then they are heading (tailing) smack into the tornado. Burl (or Larson) doesn’t get that. (Or maybe Burl got it right but Larson interfered.)
I-64 in Virginia is set up to reverse that East bound lanes, toward the coast, so that in the case of a mass evacuation all lanes will lead West away from the emergency. Maybe this is what you are seeing here.
okay I am not in tornado country. But my dad and sister are. They have a tornado shelter on their property. AS a lot of people. why is it a good idea not to use those and get into a car and follow Burl instead
East coast warning: All East Coast people go West to avoid the hurricane.West coast warning: All West Coast people go East to avoid the earthquakes.Central US warning: Everybody get sucked up by a tornado to make way for those going East and West. Please proceed in an orderly manner. Thank you.

I sense mass yelling and screaming then attacking! What municipality was dumb enough to put him in charge?

Well, right off the bat….
It looks to me like he had already started by leading them the wrong way on a divided highway!
If that’s meant to be two separate roads…. then neither has a lane for traffic in the opposite direction.
But it looks more like ONE road, with a wide divider…and since we drive on the right in the US, they should be on the other side.
If the tornado doesn’t hit them, they’ll smash right into the oncoming traffic!

Finally, state officials realized they could solve the “Crustwood Problem” by appointing him and waiting for the next tornado.
