Dad: " The whining schoolboy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping like snail unwillingly to school." Dad: Shakespeare! Petey: My face isn't shining is it? Why would Shakespeare say such a thing? I don't get it. Girl: Don't whine, Otterloop.

The quote is from “As You Like It”, it’s in the same speech that begins with “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”

I don’t thinkPetey washes his face…just not the type, afraid he will drown.

Well “shining” because when you wash your face in the morning but your body only once a month the clean tends to stand out!

Cute! Dad has a little fun with Petey, and Petey goes into nervous paralysis! A shining example of cartoon humor! [Did you see what I did there?]

I’m infamous among people who know me for overthinking everything, but next to Petey I’m strictly an amateur.

I don’t think a “shiny face” is an insult in this context. Does anyone remember the song that began with the words, “Good morning to you,Good morning to you,We’re all in our placesWith bright, shiny faces . . . "I feel that Peter was showing off his erudition to Petey, and maybe poking gentle fun at what he perceives as Petey’s reluctance to go to school. The character Peter may be constitutionally insensitive, but I don’t think he’s cruel

The Otterloop family is so kooky and fun, and this is another example of what makes them so great! Ha!
