Joe, I’m afraid it’s becoming more and more common.

And Gertie’s delimma here is all too real in today’s world.

“I never heard of making an appointment with a Physician’s Assistant”

    What pla-..? Oh, never mind.

It’s all too common these days, as davidf42 said. There’s also all too good a chance at it getting substantially worse if a certain “reform” is enacted by the U.S. government.

What’s with the “Mr. Chipper” and what the bleep is a “physician’s assistant,” anyway, that you have to wait six weeks for an appointment? They’re in short supply? Not enough people taking the community college night course diploma?

Why doesn’t Gerdo take the old booger to a doctor fer petesakes?

Or better still, the hospital ER. When you’re 110 and not feeling well, it’s probably an emergency.

I’m guessing “physician’s assistant” is akin to a “nurse practioner”.

Not quite “Physician’s Assistant” assist Dr.’s when too busy or not in the office. Gertie is talking to a medical receptionist who goes by a computer for scheduling. If she used the words emergency they would instruct her call 911. When I call for an appointment they all say if this is an emergency call 911 first for medical help or go to an emergency room.

Bassman - I’m not tired of them. I especially liked the old Walt & Skeezix picture.

I never make comments, I only want to enjoy Gasoline Alley without making comments.

In my native country that would be an emergency appointment. If it was an ordinary appointment they’d emphasize the year too. May this year would be impossible lest You were a “privately insured” patient. But few can afford that.

If Chipper is Walt’s grandson (OR great-grandson?), just tell the receptionist that he should stop in and see Mr. Walt ASAP! Mr. Walt is so old, that anytime he doesn’t feel well- - - he should be allowed a “last visit” from any/all of his relatives. It might be the last chance to say goodbye.

    Why is that, Paul?

I didn’t receive my comics in my e-mail yesterday or today. Not sure what the problem is or what to do about it.
