It is historically true that roles for Latino actors dropped drastically after banditos stopped being go-to villains in TV and movies (partially because people didn’t want to offend the growing Latino market!) Hollywood just couldn’t find heroic or “normal people” roles to put visibly Hispanic people in!

Of course, a handful of Latino actors with proven box office records were the exception—I’m sure you can name them off the top of your head.

Get off you stupid soap box. The box office determines who are cast in movie, that and sheer talent. If you don’t believe that, just ask older talented actresses who have trouble finding work. PS we don’t see alot of Caucasians in Telemondo productions, ie it’s the market STUPID.

In this day and age, all anyone needs to make a movie is some camera equipment, some time, and the occasional permit. []We’re living in a day and age where independent film-makers have access to items that even studio crews rarely had access to once upon a time. []If you feel you’re under-represented in films, make your own.

What about left-handed Swedes with one green eye and one brown? What about them, huh? Huh?

Do you mean Iñupiak and Yupik? Yep, they probably are less represented in Hollywood movies. But the point still stands: Latinos are heavily underrepresented, and when they are, they tend to be put into stereotypical roles. But I suppose this doesn’t matter to you?

And that’s exactly why this strip is up. Because of folks like you who can’t be bothered to actually think about an issue and instead act like bratty 12-year-olds. For the record, I’ll raise my hand and say that I care, and I’d wager a whole lot of other folks do too.

Oh, indie, what silly “rhetoric” comes out of that keyboard of yours! Or are you trying to be funny? If so, you really must try harder. And try a little harder to be accurate: Monsters from outer space get played by computer animations these days. But you’re right. Monsters from outer space are so underrepresented they don’t even make it onto our census forms! Maybe you could work on that much more fundamental problem before crying about who or what plays them in the moving pictures. (Besides which, depictions of monsters from outer space may just be making it into Hollywood movies more than Latinos these days.)
