Cuco: I love "Guardians of the Galaxy"! But only one thing bothers me. There are more talking raccoons and trees starring in movies than there are Latinos.
There is a character with Latino sounding name in one of the largest Science Fictions series but somehow I doubt a Wookiee quite what Lalo had in mind.
J-Lo. Banderas. Del Toro. Penelope Cruz. Danny Trejo. Eva Mendes. Desi Arnaz. Javier Bardem. Salma Hayek. Andy Garcia. Jimmy Smits. Cameron Diaz. To name a few.
It’s been well-established in this week’s comments that a certain set of people are perfectly happy in lily-white fantasyland. And that they don’t understand the concept of riffing on a theme. To a whole lot of folks (including me), this is a theme well worth visiting and revisiting. And if you don’t like strips being run about it, well, you’re just gonna have to suck it up, Buttercup. Because I predict you’ll be getting about three more on the same theme this week. Pobrecitos.
indie’s formula is to find a single comic artist to whine about and repeat ad nauseam.
How is crying about this helping?
Does he expect the Republicans to pass a law to put less La Cucaracha on the web?.And apparently indie knows nothing about issues of power, economics, historical advantages and disadvantages, and the like. Which is, like, totally and utterly unsurprising.
Lalo – []Zoe Saldana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoe_Saldana ) is of Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage. Does she count as “Latina” enough?[]Not only is she in “Guardians”, she has a role in the upcoming animated film “The Book of Life”, which is based on Mexican folklore. One of her co-stars in the latter is Diego Luna (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Luna ), who hails from Mexico City. []And let us not forget January’s release of “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones”, which had a predominantly Hispanic cast and was set in a Hispanic neighborhood in California.[]So that’s two national-release, Hollywood-backed films starring Hispanic leads just this year alone.
Yes, and the Spanish forced many of the native peoples (e.g. the Maya and other native peoples) into sexual liaisons that they did not want…the results being “Latinos/Hispanics”.
No, Night-Gaunt, the term Latino does not refer to folks from Spain, though Hispanic can. Latino refers to folks from Latin America. This is because the histories and cultures of Latin America are actually distinct from their former colonial rulers, just as that of the US is distinct from England. Also, Latinos have ancestry from all sorts of places besides Spain. There’s the indigenous people of the Americas, Africans, Asians, various Europeans, and mixes of all these folks. And Brazilians are arguably Latinos, though the Europeans who established that state were from Portugal.
What you call “Left Extremists” would tend to be just a little left of center in almost every industrialized country except the US. That’s how skewed and off the rails our politics has gotten. And you need to diagnose a problem before you can change it. I’d love to see you in a doctor’s office: “But doc, you just want to blame all these viruses and bacteria for all the illnesses you see!” Gotta give you this, though, you do give my eyes a nice workout, what with all the rolling you induce in them.

Can we please end the Great Hollywood Inequality Conspiracy now. If you want to watch Latinos watch Telemundo.

Given Lalo obsession with Latinos in the movies, was he rejected by Hollywood as a movie actor wannabe or movie extra?

Charlie Sheen is Latino. Is this the role model you’re looking for?

Or you could take an acting class. Do anything but blame others; you sound like a whiner.
