Baldo: Did Dad yell at you today? Graice: No. Baldo: Hmmm... he didn't yell at me either. That can only mean... Baldo: You broke the window, huh? Dad: How'd you guess?
Joe, Baldo is not supposing that he broke the window without remembering it. Baldo sees Papi cleaning the broken window, but knows that if Sergio had not broken the window himself, someone (not necessarily the guilty party alone) would be being yelled at.
It is true that, in the first two panels, we don’t see the broken window; that is not disclosed until the final panel, in which that which had previously been puzzling is explained.
The deliberate withholding of essential information until the end is a common method of joke-telling. You should familiarize yourself with this pattern, as it seems to have caused you needless confusion in the past, as well as here.
I’d be surpsied if it was Sergio “Papi” Bermudez who broke the window. The was window probably got in the way when he was sweeping the kitchen floor of crumbs and and such.
Carlos - I think most readers can tell it is a broom handle, it was obvious to me. Perhaps those who can’t identify it as such, aren’t used to sweeping?

Apparently, Papi broke the window after he hit backward with the stick of broom.

That’s probably the hockey stick Sergio was using to sweep the kitchen floor when he couldn’t find the broom.

What an obvious faux pax Mr Doty has made. When will you see the light, Sir?
