Why? I used to do this all the time. Wait until the end of January or beginning of Feb., and hit the calendar stores in the big shopping malls when they’re trying to dump the last of their stock for $1 or $2 apiece. The big calendars turn into 365-a-day types (so you’re not stuck staring at that same stupid “cute puppy” for 30 days at a stretch, and the little 365-a-day calendars turn into books that you can read for cheaper than if you paid for book collections from the same artists. Rather than paying $15 or $20 for one calendar, you’re getting 7 to 10 at the same price, which is a REALLY good deal.

Recycle them. A year will come back in 6, 5, 6, 11 year cycles (2014 will be good in 2025). The uneven cycle is due to leap day. All you need to do is mark in the holidays from the lunar calendar (Yom Kippur, Easter, Ramadan, etc.) and you have a new calendar for free.

I get half a dozen free in the mail every year from nature and conservation organizations. They generally have really outstanding photos! I pile them all up on one nail and each month pick the best one to put on top. And if I get tired of it I can always move one of the others to the top.
