Don’t let Lucy see you.

Where I live, it’s called “quince summer.” It’s the bit of heat that helps the quinces ripen. We’ve had unseasonably warm temps, which made lots of insects hatch out that should have lain dormant till spring. Ugh.

I think we have that here now so it must be working.

Yesterday I hiked up to a few high altitude lakes in the Eastern Sierra and was thinking what a lovely Indian Summer day it was – just slightly warm, the grasses and wildflowers gone to seed, the aspen show over – all the plant life shutting dow for winter, and not another person on the trail. I love October.

Can Indian Summer be late October or early November?

Now here is the question, how did it come to be named Indian Summer?
