Not sure how many of you have ever seen this, but the first guest on this, one of my favourite TV shows from the 1950s is of considerable interest to this group:http://youtu.be/GxvfG9FpH3U
The Sunday installment will show that tender moment that Annie fans have always looked for, the reunion of Little Orphan Annie with her Daddy Warbucks!
It’s cute the way Annie says “Mr. Tracy, you might need back-up” which gives her an excuse to stay close without admitting that she is pretty scared by what’s happening.
Why doesn’t Officer Tracy have his gun drawn? Yes the pace has definitely picked up. It’s a good thing panel 2 takes place in the 40’s and not presently. LOL!
I’m fine with the pacing on this story. If you read some of the reprinted Gould storylines, they could go on for quite a while—sometimes long enough for the changes of seasons to show up during the story. My one nit-pick, and only a car enthusiast would pick up on this, is that Tracy has no trouble driving the early-1940s police car, with its non-synchonized, most-likely-column-shifted three-speed manual transmission.Tracy is supposed to be 50ish (and, considering he has a grown daughter who was born well into his career, it’s hard to argue for him to be younger), which means he was born in the 1960s. So he would have been learning to drive in the mid-‘70s, when three-on-the-tree was pretty thin on the ground. Unless a family member owned one, he would have been unlikely to have the opportunity to drive one (I’ve driven a LOT of different cars and trucks over 35 years, and I’ve never driven a column-shifted manual). But that’s a nit-pick, and a smallish one. I’m enjoying the story, and every day I want to see what happens next—which is kind of the point of a serial strip.
It will be of course, Axel that jumps out of the bushes with a gun pointed at Tracy. Then one of the parachuters will rescue Tracy and Annie from Axel.
Or it will be a very angry and jealous Tess that walks out wanting to know why Tracy is out in a secluded area, in the dark with his arm around a young redhead girl.
I’m enjoying the longer stories, including this one. It’s an improvement over the briefer affairs we had a few years ago, which were always entertaining if a bit hurried at times. I’m just pinching myself that Dick Tracy is this good after being so bad for so long! Joe and Mike were very deserving of a 2nd Harvey Award! I’m also hoping we get back to Mysta again soon.

The second guest was also of interest to me. She exercised race horses at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, MD.

I love today’s strip – building tension and setting up the Sunday strip with classic Harold Grey-style art.
