I think it works great, given the content.
He’s being whipped around right and left by the surprises in the call, he’s looking this way and that for half-decent answers, and who cares what the sequence of speech is.
So Yeah, it’s a great change. For today’s strip.
(The only downside is it emphasizes those ridiculously dark outlines.)
