Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal by Zach Weinersmith for September 30, 2014
Transcript:
It's too bad the stupid breed more than smart people like us. Eventually everyone will be dumb. Oh that's a temporary problem. The stupid people are likely to be financially limited in the amount of high-quality children they can produce. True, in the short term they may have more kids. But, as we speak there are a few people with the intellectual gifts to make a great deal of money. Combined with the genetic propensity to produce many many children. It's a slow process, of course, but now that society directly reward some forms of genius, it's only a matter of time before we are overrun by hyper-fecund mega-nerds. See, I can make up theories of the genetic future too. You're ruining my cynicism party, Julia.

If the ultra-Elite achieve quasi-immortality as in “Zardoz” and “Mr. Nobody.” they would lose interest in sex. Or sex and reproduction would be separated from randomness, as in BRAVE NEW WORLD." Or everything goes wrong, as with the Eloi and Morlocks..My theory is: The Elite don’t want to work with their hands, so they either build robots or encourage a despised lower class to do the scut work. They provide the upper lower classes with cheap comforts and neat toys. The Elite encourage simplistic thinking in the lower masses that can be manipulated to keep themselves in power. .I wonder when this will happen?

Lots of animals breed much faster than humans, but we overpower them anyway. Don’t sweat it.

Did you read EVOLUTION, by Stephen Baxter? If I remember correctly, he portrays life on Earth 500 million years past the decline of Homo sapiens (not too far into our future).

Stupidity is a self-limiting problem for which natural selection already provides an answer. How I lived this long, I will never know.

Intelligence is a recessive gene (which means the world is indeed getting dumber- even with the population increasing).
