I will always be grateful for the time I spend caring for my father. He’s 92, a retired Navy chief (20 years) and full of stories of the past…. and while technology is a wonderful thing, I remember one of the first lessons I learned about information on the internet…“garbage in, garbage out”.
I’ve found that almost any old person has wisdom and history and perspective to pass along, f anyone is willng to listen. I’ve also found that most of the young ‘uns don’t give a whit. The world began the day they were born.
Now approaching 74, I’ve had a wonderfully mixed career in teaching, music, and over 50 years in information technology. The most memorable and treasured experiences have been with people, usually older than I was at the time, who in some way passed on to me a portion of their own experience and wisdom. If somewhere there are a few younger people who will count time spent with me in the same way, my life has been well spent.
The extent of my grandfather’s wisdom was “life is hard, and it’s going to get harder with dwindling resources and more competition born everyday. Find yourself a cave and don’t have kids.”

Earl should try reading The Giver, and then follow his example.

Yes but with an old person, you don’t have to ask or look stuff up. They just TELL you :~)
