A somewhat enlarged image can be found here, or at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog (blog repeat currently doesn’t have the enlargement).Eavesdropping is privately owned. On December 14, 2005, its owner tried to sell it; but, it went unsold. On April 30, 2014, another auctioneer tried to sell (put 18 in bottom box) it, under the title A Gentleman Bemused; but, again, it remained unsold (put 6 in bottom box). That auction showed this to be a detail image of the full painting (artist signature and date at the bottom left are chopped off). You can see a click-to-enlarge image of the full, framed painting here. The artist (Google translation, Bing translation) also painted The Eavesdropperwhich did sell elsewhere. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection.A handful of those links were also used here.

Although lesser known than Poor Richard, Ben Franklin had more fun with his other alter ego – the Good Humor Man.
