You can get a lot of things done in detention.

“Occasional”?Surely Nate and Chester are the only ones…

When I was in school you were allowed to do NOTHING. Just had to sit there, no homework, no putting your head on the desk, just vegetate till the time was up.

My parents never noticed since they worked later than my school schedule.

…..and HIS occasions there are MANY!!! Triple digits, as I recall…………Laugh! LAUGH!!

….and when I was there, the room monitor (usually “The Prefect Of Discipline” had already written some lengthy, sag-along-drag-along, stodgy line from some famous work of literature up there on the blackboard. If you had “tardy” detention, you had to write this 70 times on loose leaf paper and hand it in before you could leave. If you got “misdemeanor” detention, it was 140 times. I generally stayed outta there……

Public schools in my area don’t seem to have detention anymore. They have In-school Suspension (ISS), the kids go to a room during the school day and miss important instruction. I’m not sure about the reason for the change, maybe they didn’t want to pay teachers for the extra time.

Ha! You think that they pay teachers overtime? I can’t tell you how many times my mom’s principal has made her stay back at school for HOURS and she’s never seen a dime for her work. Teachers are horribly underpaid.

In my school, detention qualifies as spending your morning tea and lunchtime in the AP’s office for accidentally hurting someone.
