I would think that Annie ‘s last comment means getting a doctor to reverse the brainwashing her friends have endured. Also (I’ve been absent the last few days), why can’t the Silos still be around. Look at all the other “Annie” & “Tracy” characters that survive. This isn’t Gasoline Alley, after all!

With the marriage disolved, Pimpleton had no choice but to abandon the infant, at the St. Jezebel convent. I guess law enforcement was in her blood
I always thought she was the daughter of this manArthur Dietrich
Annie sure doesn’t have to spend a lot in of time the morning contemplating what to wear for the day. I guess either she has one dress that she wears every single day or she has something like ten red dresses that are all exactly alike.
Howdy doo, VB. If I might make a slight request, with no ill intent, but your frequent requests for Sam to resume his nicotine intake is something I find disturbing, I have just completed my 2nd round of radiation therapy (chemo as well) and I find Sam’s abstinence from smoking refreshing and a small little victory, albeit from a character in a favorite comic of mine. I would actually love to see the strip comment on his cigarette’s absence in some narrative context. I always look for your comments 1rst here ( along with certain poetic delights) but I just had to say something concerning this. No offence intended. Thanks for the forum, folks. Back to the show!
Leaping Lizards! It’s great to see Annie back in her own strip! Maybe we can convince them to bring back Dick Tracy in a strip of his own. LOL! I hope Annie irons that dress before wearing it.
Ahhh, Barney Miller. When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be Det. Dietrich. Maybe it’s because his demeanor was much like my fathers. It’s a shame television continues to sink to all-time lows, but that’s what today’s America must want to watch. (Not saying ALL television is bad, some shows are very well done. Just MOST of it.) Kids, stick to reading the funny papers. I recommend Dick Tracy…
So how many complains did we use to have every day about Sam and his smoking. Now that he appears to have quit, we get the dailyt complaint that he is not smoking. LOL. Shows you can’t please everybody no matter what yo do.
I wish I had the link, but one strip from the Harold Gray years showed Annie hanging the wash on the clothesline. The lines were all full of little red dresses, all identical!
I’ve not read Dick Tracy until recently, so I don’t have any strong feelings about Sam’s smoking either way. Still, I know the feeling from Lucky Luke. Under Morris and Goscinny, it was a running gag that he always had a cigarette in his mouth, unless he was rolling a new one, which he did in the most incredible circumstances. When Goscinny died, the cigarette was soon replaced by a straw.
I hope Annie’s rather simple kindliness towards the Silos and Prof. Kenyon doesn’t turn out to be a weakness exploitable by Axel. And if the Silos are still under the Belinda mind control, Tracy and Warbucks need to be very circumspect when in their presence….
More than a touch of Irony there . . . one may be forgiven, for thinking that’s just - a ‘figure of speech’ ? Incredible really ! Indeed - you might think Conspicuous Speed - given the slow Drum Beat, of that idyllic *
“marking of time”* these past 10 weeks in Simmons Corners !
No wish to be repetitious, but this suggested hint/change in speed (or pacing) by the Authors today, caught my eye !. It’s been a (subconscious?) ‘sentiment’ on the board recently, one of “expectation” on what will be SEEN tomorrow ….INFECTIOUS ? Perhaps? And the Authors caught it ?
Annie’s statement - their first ‘touch’ on the Jay Garrick pedal ?
The Dr. Magpie ChroniclesPrevious chapters can be found on these dates; 6/25, 6/27, 6/30, 7/8, 7/11, 7/22, 8/1, 8/14.
Chapter 9“So now young lady, it’s your turn to answer a simple question and tell me who you are”! Annie pondered how she should answer his question. Tracy was after all an employee of her daddy. She quickly realized she couldn’t reveal who she was. At least not yet! “My name is Shirley Bell. I’ve been staying with some relatives of mine”. Annie saw what seemed like a little smile cross Tracy’s face. While she was wondering what had just made him do this some airport police officers finally came over to where they were standing, Tracy excused himself for a moment, asking Annie not to leave and went over to talk to them. After a few moments all of them walked over to where Annie was standing, one of them holding a camera in his hand which was extended towards her. “Excuse me Miss but would you mind taking a picture of us with Mr. Tracy? “Annie was quite surprised by this request but agreed to take the picture, handing the camera back to the officer after doing so. “Thanks for taking care of this for me”. Tracy called out to them as he began to walk away. Annie could tell by Tracy’s face she must not have done a good job of hiding her puzzlement. “I spent a little time on the police force some years ago. For some reason they heard of me and wanted a picture of us.” “How nice of them”. Annie dryly blurted out, wanting to come across as indifferent. “We can go”, Tracy said, “they said they’d arrest this guy for trespassing and jail him”. Annie wondered why this Tracy fellow that daddy had working for him could get the cops to leave her out of this situation. Normally they’d make her go to the station to give a statement. “Don’t they want to interview me about his attack on me”? Annie said to him. Tracy stopped walking and looked right at her. “I figured you’d rather not get involved. You can catch up to them if you want”. Annie knew right away he was calling her bluff. “No, best to continue playing along”. She thought to herself. “I thought so. How about the two of us working together to find out who this Dr. Magpie fellow really is and why he wanted to kill you”? Annie suddenly realized that this was the adventure she’s come all the way here to go on, to find herself, and Tracy was the one to help her on this journey..To Be Continued……..
No action in today’s strip but I loved it! I think that was (and is) what so good about Annie .. she makes you feel good and ready to face another day! Would love to see her adventures start up again by a good artist and writer like we have in Dick Tracy. And keep her young and innocent and the center of the storyline like Gray did, not a secondary character like she seems to become in later years by other writers.
“Barney Miller” I watched it too and tried to keep track of the actors.Rural TV/FamilyNet is still showing it in reruns on weekday afternoons. I think it’s on from 2:30-3:00 Eastern Time.
WOW! You learn something every day. Carly Simon is an icon. I never would have imagined that trolls had such great taste in music. Thanks Mr. T for the link.
Scroll down and click to enlarge the color Sunday in which Annie delivers a monologue in support of the war effort before Gray finishes it off with a very clever visual.
