It’s officially April 1st on my other side of the IDL, Mr. Chatfield (although it’s April 2nd where you’re at). Hope you had an awesome first day of autumn.
Hi Jason and Meggsie fans.
Gee, with all the experience Dad has had and is going to get, Mike may finish up with the world’s first all-electric kennel.
Let’s all wish Dad well, he has attempted many projects over the years but always with with results varying from hopeless to disastrous.
By the way comixavier, it’s still April 1 here in Oz and Autumn started 31 days ago. Thought you could catch us eh?
From time to time Ginger gives his overseas pals some information on Aussie slang. Dry: from the context, it is reasonably obvious what you are referring to as a zinger but this fair dinkum true blue Aussie would be interested in learning more about how it is applied in the US.
Yes lonewolf, hope so. Zinger is an expression I’ve never heard before, am interested. Does it mean a sarcastic remark or can it also mean a one-liner along the lies of, “As quick as a wink she replied …”?
“Zinger” means to “throw” a sarcastic or funny remark back at someone. “He changed a light bulb once” is the “zinger” in this instance. Hope that helps.
Thanks Lonewolf. Then it’s never used in the same context as a ‘snappy catch answer’ where someone pretends to misunderstand whatever the other person says.
Mornin’ rac0308. Sorry, insomniac Aussie here, not Lonewolf, but have had a lesson in American slang. Right now, in Texas (not West Texas), it is 15 minutes past noon but you did come online 7 minutes before that time frame.
Busy filing early Meggsies into a collection. he’s one real li’l fella who has kept up with the times for over 80 years. We all love him in Oz.
Hi Lonewolf. Have collected Meggsies all my life and am wading through them to get them in some sort of order. They came from Opportunity Shops, dealers and friends, along with some from the stockings left for me by Santa. I am sure you don’t want to know the years I have collected but the collection shows that Ginger was an Aussie boy who stayed at 12 years old through 89 years (no, I am not that old). May I say that Jason, as the fifth artist to draw Ginger, is gifted at presenting Ginger as a boy of his time.
I was hoping I could find some archives online but so far have not been able to locate them.
I have gone through the history of the strip and the cartoonists and it has made for some good reading.
I think it is an awesome cartoon strip and I have only been reading it for a short time.
I miss the older cartoon strips even though I like many of the present day strips, too.
I like the way Jason does the strip, too.
Thank you very much. I have sent you an email. But I don’t think it is good to put the email up that way on a site like this. When I do it I put it as xxxxxxxxxx at xxxx dot xxxx
That way the email address can’t be picked up electronically by remote spammers.
I too, am going through the archives from 2004 to present, but I am looking for a few from the early years(possibly Us Fellers years) to see how the strip has grown with the times.
Jason, thank you for the link. I am really getting into Ginger Meggs. I saw it at an earlier age but don’t remember when. I am glad that you were able to pick it up and keep it going.
Joe Sorry about that! * I’m not trying to beat you to it, I think you know that :-) and there are many days I won’t be first because I have to get up to go to work and I stay up way longer than I should some nights! Addicted to the comics, who me? No! LOL!*
I have become a fan as well, And Jason you have done a WONDERFUL job of carrying on this strip! Cudos to you sir!
