Hi Jason, Joe, lonewolf and all Meggsie fans. At long. long, last we have found out what Dad does for a living. The Meggs family must surely be thankful he did not choose architecture, otherwise they would be in the poorhouse, not the doghouse.

However, when the possums make a fuss outside at 2 am and our mutts carry on like pork chops, a dog kennel with a lock-down roof, but otherwise to Mr. Meggs’ design, would be much appreciated.

    usfellers (or Jason), not Joe:

Would you mind rendering the second paragraph of your post in non-venacular. Google “Translate” seemed confused.

LOL. Sorry, didn’t realize I used an Aussieism, that’s a Meggsie fan for you. For some unknown reason ‘carrying on like a pork chop’ means to make an unnecessary and annoying fuss over something; don’t ask me why, we just use the expression. Maybe you would like to reply with a similar expression in your neck of the woods.

In meth producing regions, it’s sometimes refered to as “tweeking.” As in; “Man, that dude is tweeking.”

Joe, you’ve made my day. Off to an Easter dinner with friends right now and that story will get told. Your ‘good ol’ country boy’ has his equivalent in ‘Dad and Dave’ in Australia. No doubt the story would be enhanced even further if told with the accompanying accent, just as Dad and Dave stories need a woolly-back Aussie accent for the greatest effect. Watch for one in the next Meggsie comments.

    usfellers,

Thanks. I understood the intent. I just like to see how people who use a phrase explain it. Lots of regional speech users don’t know the origin or phrases, and many of those don’t recognize regionalisms as non-standard.

I’ve worked for and with a few Aussies, read a bunch of Australian novels, and I was a huge fan of Arthur Upfield books until I ran out of them, so I could probably understand enough ‘strine to find bathrooms and such, if need be.

    usfellers,

Thanks again. I inadvertently posted my first thank-you at the bottom of yesterday’s page.
