And we’ll pay for everything privately like the roads, the fire department, the sewer. That’s going to be so much fun!

In her book “Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal” Ayn Rand discusses how a government restricted to defending rights (meaning police, military, and courts) would be so small that it could be financed voluntarily, and she suggests various methods this could be done.

Cdward seems unhappy with the thought of paying privately for roads, fire departments, and sewer, but why should anyone be forced to pay involuntarily? I have always lived in Philadelphia and vicinity and so have always been aware of how the fire companies were originally private (financed by fire insurance companies) and most of the regional roads were originally toll roads (which is why so many of the highways around here have “Pike” in the name).

One of the marvels of a free market is how it finds new ways to do things, including paying for all the things the government has taken over in the last hundred years and now taxes everyone for, whether you want it or not.
