Phlogiston still explains what happens with electronics. TVs and computers run on smoke (dirty phlogiston). When the smoke escapes, those electronics stop working. This is the same principle as the old-style light bulbs, which sucked up all the dark (black phlogiston) in the room to make it brighter. When the bulbs became full, they had to be replaced. Which also contributes to why LED bulbs aren’t as bright as florescents – they suck less.

Modern science says it’s oxygenation, while older science said it was phlogiston. Alchemists would accept ether explanation.
