So, the voice yesterday was Fritz Ann. I’d have been very surprised if it were anyone else.
And now we see a repeat of what I was saying a couple of days ago when someone asked why Tracy didn’t simply arrest Axel. “What for?” And Fritz Ann says for kidnapping Annie Warbucks for a start, but Axel says he didn’t kidnap her, but rather rescued her from “The Butcher.”
That, also, is what I was saying the other day. There’s no clear evidence that Axel actually kidnapped Annie. He’s right. He hasn’t been seen to be doing anything other than helping her. It’s not going to do any good arresting him if they can’t come up with a charge that sticks.
Finally, Axel implies that he might be working for the government. That’s an unexpected twist, but it actually seems like a possibility. I wonder how carefully Fritz Ann researched this whole operation before she burst on the scene.
Hopefully, we will soon find out what “privately owned by the U.S. government” means. I still haven’t figured that one out.
We imported ex-Nazi rocket scientists, so I suppose the Government might have recruited Axel to crack the whip on Doc Kenyon (though Axel seems to lack any mitigating expertise of his own). But he had better try to play nice with Fritz Ann, because, if he doesn’t, Daddy, The Asp, and Punjab might be more direct in meting out their brand of justice….
Punjab is ticked off he couldn’t make Axel disappear with his motel 6 towel! Is it against the law to “erase” people? Perhaps Fritz the cat should be arresting “Ho ho ho” instead. Just a thought.
Every so often Joe Staton draws a Figure or an Object that your eyes seem to dart to, and linger, held longer. You eventually read the full strip, but you find your eyes unexplainably ‘attracted’ back to that ART creation. ! ?
Today, we have it in Panel 1 - the figure (composition) of Fritz Ann is one. Don’t mind the paper Zeppelin . ;- ) Presentation really TURNS the EYE sockets. A Glue spot ? Perhaps no one else will know what the heck I’m talking about ? And for me, it’s not any sort of ‘feminine attraction’ the way a saucy Moon Maid or a captivating, mole-on-cheek Rikki - under a purple Bowler Hat might serve to knock some readers over.
It’s just a gripping IMAGERY. Can’t put a finger on exactly why ? it’s something undefinable. You realize it’s part of the artistic genius that fortunately works on Dick Tracy !And that we’ve had them before.
Good morning DT and Annie fans. Maybe tomorrow will find out what Axel is really up to. Maybe he has changed sides and is actually working for the government. What a story twist that would be!
OMG, according to that interview with the artists, they are going to do a crossover with Funky Winkerbean in February?? You mean we could actually get a few GOOD weeks of Winkerbean strips that don’t concentrate on Les’s late wife Lisa, comic books, or just being generally depressing?? WOAH!!!!!!
Axel’s suggesting this whole operation is government approved. (Whose government?)Hmm… A needlessly complicated operation that takes forever with little results.. Oh my God – he’s working for DICK CHENEY!(It’s not Obama – he’d never get it past the House.)
Funky Winkerbean? Seriously? And here I was hoping for Mandrake…-There was a plot line about a TV host who was murdered. It was in a related strip (I think). He was killed in the last strip in the series. The case was still unsolved, when last I read that strip, a loooong time ago.Maybe Tracy will finally wrap that one up!
I just read that Comic resources interview, and my fave takeaway is that the present epic story will be over in about 2 weeks. Hurray. I guess the Funky Winterbean and Snuffy (tarnation!) Smith “crossovers” will be more of an appearance than a story. At least I hope so. Finally, although he, like BB Eyes got killed , Gruesome reanimated will be a welcome addition. Hopefully, Splitface and The Claw will show up at some point.
13 more days of this story (thank God) but then we get gruesome from the tracy films making an appearance? wonderful, but its only for a few weeks since they have a november and january AND february story planned as well.. here’s a rundown from the site of what mike and joe are planning, storywise.
For the story right after “Annie,” I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but RKO made four “Dick Tracy” feature films back in the mid-‘40s. They had Gould-esque villains like Cueball, who we’ve already adapted into the strip. The last of those films was “Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome,” which starred Boris Karloff. Gruesome will be in the next story after Annie. We have gotten permission from Sara Karloff to use her father’s likeness, so Boris Karloff will be making a guest appearance, as it were.
We have Silver and Sprocket Nitrate coming back after the first of the year. We’ve got the Blackhearts, and we’ll get back into their story. A lot of Tracy fans are waiting for us to bring back Notta Fallar, who’s also known as Mrs Chin Chillar. She was a bearded lady during the space coupe stories, and she was regularly in the strip for well over a year in various storylines. Gould said she was the most popular character that he had come up with in the strip.
Aw, thought we were getting a Halloween story……I suppose they could have Gruesome walking past pumpkins or whatever, lol. Mike really should not divulge details ahead of time on other sites, though, as there’s always someone who can’t wait to run over here and blab it to those of us who like a little mystery in our Dick Tracy……
Hopefully, we can have the Crocs cross over from “Pearls” as villains, too, and Luann help Tracy on a case as well (jk)…….seriously, this comic crossover stuff, which started before this strip did it, was cool in the beginning, and having Annie come over was interesting enough, but it’s going to start getting old if it keeps up, as is having every villain from the past return. Mike and Joe have shown the ability to create totally cool, kick-ass new ones, so why stop now?
Well since Axel didn’t demand ransom he did not kidnap Annie.
It was Fritz Ann who termed it “kidnapping,” not me. What you are referring to is often called “kidnapping for ransom.” Ransom is not an essential element in the definition of “kidnapping” (although ransoms are frequently involved). According to the Wikipedia article:In criminal law, kidnapping is the taking away or transportation of a person against that person’s will, usually to hold the person in false imprisonment, a confinement without legal authority. This may be done for ransom or in furtherance of another crime, or in connection with a child custody dispute.
Has anyone asked whether or not the professor’s work is legal? Controlled substances, maybe? I know that people who are messing around with explosives are of great interest to DHS and the FBI. Possible terrorism ties? I doubt that Prof Kenyon had a centrifuge going there, but the feds definitely are interested in that kind of work nowdays.
