Peter - use a few big rubber bands instead… you’ll sleep better.

Johanan Rakkav - I love it!

Freeholder1 - I’m NOT borrowing your mitt anytime soon!

As boys, we used to break in a new mitt by oiling the “pocket” and then working our fist into it for hours and hours; also wadding it up into as small a bunch as we could and then expanding it. And, yes, we’d also put a baseball in the pocket, wrap the glove tightly around it, hold it together with a belt and then put it under the mattress. We also had a friend who used to walk up and down the block, throwing his new glove to the sidewalk as hard as he could - for hours.

It takes weeks of abuse to break in a glove properly!

What? Peter sleeps with his cap still on his head? He probably had that complaint (about the mitt under the mattress) from his parents and Jason.

I used neatsfoot oil back in the 1940s.

If you want to break up your mitt, Peter, keep it under your dad’s mattress… I’m sure his body weight will put a lot more pressure on it!
