I wonder when “Good Cop, Bad Cop” entered the vocabulary. It’s such a simple and effective technique that I figure it has to have been used for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. Did the Spanish Inquisition play “Good Cardinal, Bad Cardinal” with heretics?
